HISTORY OF THE MANOR HOUSE
When Lindy's Lake was constructed in 1928, a large parcel of land was set aside for a tennis court, basketball games, a horseshoe pit and a playground. Presiding over all this is the building known as the Manor House. Designed in the style of a grange, the building is surrounded by tall pines.

The upper floor is ringed with a wrap-around porch; inside is a great stone fireplace, an open ceiling with exposed beams and a massive meeting room. One corner boasts a bandstand!

The ground floor originally had a full kitchen that served breakfast and lunch every day. Beyond an area filled with tables and chairs was a separate barroom - that's right, Prohibition or no, Lake residents could enjoy their draft beers.

In the early years, there were Arts & Crafts lessons on the porch at the manor once a week and teen dances with Georgie Spinnler and his band playing "Satisfaction" by the Stones. On rainy days the jukebox on the ground floor played as kids danced or sat on over-stuffed couches with the springs pushing thru the cushions.

Members bought hamburgers for 25 cents and ice cream for 15 cents at Wednesday's Movie Nights, and everyone safely home in the dark, never worrying about bears.

The Manor Hoiuse was a babysitter and social club to kids and a country club for our parents, who would dress (really dress) and walk over to card games and dances all summer.

It was as a "Wonderful life", but a lot like the movie "Dirty Dancing" without the long car trip.
